Press release on symposium of two ICTM study groups
On July 09, 2010, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology organized the press release on the sixth symposium of the ICTM study group on Music and Minorities and second symposium of the ICTM study group on Applied Ethnomusicology.

This is the first time in history of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM) that two study groups co-organize their symposium in a country. The Vietnamese Institute for Musicology is the host for this scientific event in Hanoi under sponsor by Norwegian transposition program.


The organization board received 45 papers for the ICTM study group on Music and Minorities and 31 papers for the ICTM study group on Applied Ethnomusicology. Those papers belong to scholars of 30 countries. Vietnam, the host country, contributes 15 papers to this symposium. Those will be presented within 30 sessions.
The subjects of the ICTM study group on Music and Minorities comprise,
-          Music and Minorities in education
-          Other minorities – Challenges and solutions
-         The role of music in maintaining the sustainability of ethnic groups
The subjects of the ICTM study group on Applied Ethnomusicology comprise,
-         History and activities in applied ethnomusicology.
-          Performance arts and preservation issue
-          Performance arts in dialogues, support, and education.
Sessions of the sixth symposium of the ICTM study group on Music and Minorities take place on July 19-22, 2010. Sessions of the subject “Music and Minorities in Vietnam” take place on July 23, 2010. The special event of these symposiums is the visit of two study groups to the world’s natural heritage, Halong Bay, the pride of Vietnam. Sessions of the second symposium of the ICTM study group on Applied Ethnomusicology take place on July 26-28, 2010.
