Six piano students from the Viet Nam National Academy of Music (VNAM) have triumphed at the Asia International Piano Academy Festival and Competition in Cheonan, South Korea.
Hoang Pham Tra My, Dang Thi Bich Thuy, Duong Hong Thach, Nguyen Ha Uyen and Nguyen The Vinh brough home gold medals, while Dinh Hong Trang earned a silver.
The competition was joined by 46 pianists from five other countries, including South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Performances were assessed by a jury including South Korean Pianists Association president Chang Hae-won, Japanese Piano Academy director Fumiko Eguchi, and the former director of the VNAM, Tran Thu Ha.
The competition has been held annually in South Korea since 1994, but Viet Nam joined it this year for the first time, winning half of the gold medals granted in the competition.
"The Vietnamese group received praise and high appreciation from the jury for its high technique and confidence," said Dr. Ta Quang Dong of the VNAM.
Academy students have also won prizes at the 76th Sydney Eisteddfod piano competition in Australia earlier this month, he noted
The academy is preparing for the first Viet Nam International Piano Competition to be held on September 4-13 in Ha Noi.
