Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra was established in 1997. It is one of the best orchestras in Vietnam. At present, the Orchestra comprises of professors, lecturers of Vietnam National Academy of Music.
Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra performs annually with foreign guest conductors such as Wolfgang Groehs (Austria), Xavier Rist (France), Hikotaro Yazaki (Japan), Robert Ryker (USA), Mats Lilijefors (Sweden), Stephen Ellery (UK), Max Olding (Australia), Mark Gorenstein (Russia), Dariusz Waszak (Poland), Shuichi Komiyama (USA), Leonid Nikolaiev (Russia)... The Orchestra also played under the baton of Vietnamese conductors such as Prof. People’s Artist Nguyen Trong Bang, Artist of Merit Nguyen Thieu Hoa and Le Phi Phi (Vietnam/Macedonia)...
Hanoi Philharmonic Orchestra presented successfully many concerts with famous soloists including People’s artist Dang Thai Son (Piano/Vietnam); Stephan Tran Ngoc (Violin/France), Markus Stoker (Cello/Australia), Stephen Framil (Cello/USA), Philippe Dorn (Clarinet/France), Ilinca Dumitrecu (Piano/Romania)... Every year, the Orchestra performs many concerts presenting works by Vietnamese composers and gives great support to young musical talents of Vietnam. The Orchestra had successful concerts in Tokyo Takemitsu concert hall (Japan), Laos Cultural center, Bangkok music center, Mahidol University (Thailand), Moscow Malui theatre, St. Petersburg Marinsky theatre (Russia).
In special, the Orchestra participated the Asian Music Festival in Tokyo, Japan as representative of Vietnamese symphonic music in October 1999. In May 2007 Hanoi Philharmonic orchestra had concert tour in France.
