A project to preserve and develop quan ho (love duet singing) and ca tru (ceremonial singing) has been approved by authorities in Bac Ninh province in the North.The project, backed by UNESCO as intangible heritage, will receive
VND65 billion (US$3.2 million) from the provincial budget over the next
seven years. The main aim of the project will be to teach quan ho and ca tru and
popularising them in the community – and restoring pagodas and temples,
where the arts were performed in the past.

who have ever met the French-citizenship musician, Mr. Trần Quang Hải.
He, with nearly fifty years closely attaching to the musicology
researches, is supposed as one of pioneers of the world in this field.
He and his overtone voice, the mouth harp, and spoons travel many places
of the world to perform and introduce Vietnamese traditional music.

On July 09, 2010, the Vietnamese Institute for Musicology organized the
press release on the sixth symposium of the ICTM study group on Music
and Minorities and second symposium of the ICTM study group on Applied
Ethnomusicology. This is the first time in history of the International Council for
Traditional Music (ICTM) that two study groups co-organize their
symposium in a country. The Vietnamese Institute for Musicology is the
host for this scientific event in Hanoi under sponsor by Norwegian
transposition program.

Between 08-11 of June 2010, to act as a proxy for the Ministry of
Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Department of Copyright organized the
training conference entitled Intellectual Property Rights on Copyright
and Related Rights for the purpose to improve the knowledge about
enforcement of government’s decrees and terms on this law.

At 10:45 Abu Dhabi time (14:45 Vietnam time) of October 01, 2009, UNESCO
listed Ca trù of Vietnam in the Intangible Cultural Heritages in Need
of Urgent Safeguarding. Fifteen files of nine countries registered for the first List of
Intangible Cultural Heritages in Need of Urgent Safeguarding, twelve of
them were recognized.

The world festival on goong in 2009 will be held in Gia Lai province on 8
– 11 of November, with attending of 30 goong troupes, in which
including five troupes coming from ASEA. The festival, with the
aim to honour the space of gong in Gia Lai in particular and Highland
Center in general, belongs to the activities of preservation and
rehabilitation the values of human intangible heritage “Cultural space
of goong in Highland Center”

Recently, the Vietnam Folk Cultural Association chose to recognized the
title as folk artists to seven artists in Kon Tum province at the fields
of creation, performing, training of traditional instruments, and
telling epic. At telling epic, artists A Ngleuh in Dak Mar commune – Ngoc Hoi district
– Ba na monority, and two of Ro Ngao minority including artist Aluit in
Dak To Re commune – Kon Ray district, and artist A Den in Dak La
commune – Dak Ha district honor to received the title.

One of project that on
the way by Vietnam Culture and Arts Institute is restore some folk festivals
with playing of contemporary arts.The high techniques in
interaction of contemporary arts, will be test in the ceremony of Lanh Giang
temple of Duy Tien district – Ha Nam province on July 23, and played by young
artists Phuong Vu Manh, Vu Nhat Tan, Pham Van Truong.

On 16 – 18 of June, 2009, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism
of Phu Tho province coordinated with the Vietnamese Institute for
Musicology, and the Vietnam Association of Literature to carry out a
survey for setting up the file on Xoan singing of Phu Tho province to
submit UNESCO to recognize as a human intangible heritage which need to
be preserve in urgent. Taking part in the survey includes Pf.PhD. To Ngoc Thanh – Chairman of
Vietnam Association Literature, and PhD Le Van Toan – Deputy Rector of Vietnam
National Academy of Music.
