National Solo and Ensemble Competition for Vietnamese Music Instruments - 2020

On the 15th of September, the Performing Arts Department (the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) officially informed of "National solo and ensemble competition for Vietnamese music instruments - 2020", after the delay because of the influence of Covid -19 epidemic. 

"National solo and ensemble competition for Vietnamese music instruments - 2020" will be held from September 18 to October 4. It aims to honor, disseminate, preserve and promote the values ​​of Vietnamese traditional music, contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

This is an opportunity for artists of traditional musical instruments at art units, lecturers and students who are teaching and learning on the major of traditional musical instruments at the art training institutions to show personal abilities; exchange and learn experiences in art activities; preserve, maintain and promote the quintessence of Vietnamese traditional music. From that, there will be policies on the management, training, fostering and development of the talents and promotion of traditional music genres development in a new era. This year's competition attracted a large number of registered contestants, including 650 contestants and 35 art troupes nationwide.

As planned, the competition would be held in Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province. Because of the Covid-19 epidemic, in order to ensure the safety of epidemic prevention and control in the "new normal" state, the Organizing Committee decided to organize the competition at five locations across the country. They are Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province (from 18th to 19th September); Ho Chi Minh City (from 21st to 23rd September); Thanh Hoa city, Thanh Hoa province (from 25th to 26th September); Vinh Yen city, Vinh Phuc province (on 28th September) and Hanoi (from 30th September to 2nd October).

Candidates are divided into four categories including ensemble for traditional theater units; ensemble for music and dance units, academies of music, conservatories of music; and solo for artists of traditional theater units; solo for artists from music and dance units, academies of music, conservatories of music and artists of non- public arts schools. 

The jury consists of seven members who are reputable and talented musicians, artists, researchers and art managers who have many contributions to the development of the performing arts, especially performing traditional musical instruments.

The closing ceremony for summarizing and awarding will take place at the Viet Nam Cheo Theater (No. 1 Giang Van Minh, Ba Dinh, Hanoi) at 9:00 on the 4th of October.

The whole competition was featured online on Youtube of Vietnam Performing Arts. This is also the first time the Performing Arts Department has featured the competition of national professional music on Youtube channel. ■
