“Galaxy concert - Professor Ngo Van Thanh and generations of brilliant students”
In the evening of the 6th of November 2020, at the concert hall of the Viet Nam National Academy of Music took place a Galaxy concert. The concert held in November was also the month to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers’ Day, so it became more and more meaningful to Prof. Dr. People’s Artist Ngo Van Thanh and his students. The progam was like a musical festival where famous violinists gathered to express their gratitude to the teacher’s tireless contributions. They are like bright spots, creating a glittering starry sky, painting a colorful “galaxy”. The artist invited for the honor of the concert is Prof. PhD. People’s Teacher Tran Thu Ha - former rector of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music (currently Viet Nam National Academy of Music).
The audience enjoyed a music night with a list of famous works written for the violin. The first part was started with the works On Wings of Song of F. Mendelssohn and Hungarian Dance No. 1 of J. Brahms, followed by Vocalize of S. Rachmaninov, Romance Andanluzia of P. Sarasate, Concerto for three violins, Concerto for four violins of A.Vivaldi. The second part was continued with Carmen for four violins and double bass of G. Bizet, Campanella of N. Paganini, Rhapsody Tzigan of M. Ravel, Five pieces for two violins and piano of S. Shostakovich, Zigeunerweisen of P. Sarasate, History of Tango of A. Piazzolla, arranged by D. Varelas, Carnival of Venice of N. Paganini. Two works by Vietnamese composers performed in the second part were Bai ca chim ung [Hawk Song] of Dam Linh and especially the works Ha Noi niem tin va hy vong [Hanoi - Faith and Hope] of Phan Nhan which was chosen as the work for closing an emotional music night.
Prof. PhD. People’s Artist Ngo Van Thanh graduated from Tchaikovsky Conservatory in 1979 and then graduated a Doctor of Music Arts in violin performance in 1982, class of Professor Igor Bezrodny. Between 1990 and 1996, he was a head of String Department of Hanoi Conservatory of Music. In 1996, he was a rector deputy of the Hanoi Conservatory of Music. Between 2006 and 2011, he was a rector of the Viet Nam National Academy of Music. As a leading expert in the field of stringed instruments, he has succeeded in activities including management, performing, research and training, contributing in cultivating many music talents of Viet Nam. ■
