The European Melchior Ensemble will gather in Ha Noi to offer a chamber music repertoire on Saturday and Sunday.
The four-member ensemble includes
cellist David Cohen from Belgium, pianist Charles Owen from the UK,
clarinettist Reto Bieri from Switzerland, and violinist Alicja Smietana
from Poland, who have all performed on the international stage and won
several prestigious prizes.
Founded in 1996, the Melchior
Ensemble performed several concerts at the Guildhall School of Music
and Drama in London, Peterhouse Cambridge, Christchurch in London,
Palais des Beaux Arts Brussels.
The quartet won the Ivan Sutton Chamber Music Prize and the Dorothy Adams String Quartet Prize in 1997.
The ensemble performs a variety of chamber music, particularly romantic pieces.
They were selected for the BBC
Radio 3 Young Artist's Forum in 1998 and subsequently presented a
concert in the Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton which was
broadcast on BBC Radio 3 in early 1999.
Being one of the cultural events
held during the annual Europe Day, the Melchior Ensemble's concerts in
Ha Noi will start at 8pm at the Opera House on Saturday and Sunday
nights. They will also be on stage at the HCM City Opera House next
Monday.
